Flags of convenience outshone by local flower power

Here’s Sutton Common Road resplendent with standard-issue Olympic flags to decorate the torch route. Other London councils have the same banners, which come in different colours.

It’s a great shame because this one-flag-fits-all approach misses the opportunity for local kids to design something brighter, more creative and more ‘local’.

I believe Sutton didn’t have a choice in the matter – we need to blame Sebastian Coe and Co for that!

But it’s not all bad, though. Sutton has done it’s bit by erected flowers on the corner of the High Street and Crown Road by the defunct (soon to be redeveloped) Zurich building.

And very nice it looks too!
